Introduction to verticutting and scarifying a lawn
Verticutting of lawns (August to March)
The role of verticutting a lawn cannot be over emphasised.
We never cease to be amazed about how little knowledge homeowners have about the act of scarifying a lawn. Lawnpro owns a state of the art verticutting machine and find that lawns can be de-thatched anywhere between August and March in the Pretoria area. Our team will readily advise about the necessity of verticutting your lawns.
What is thatch?

Thatch is a layer of organic residue that accumulates just above the soil surface and is largely undecomposed or in the advance stage of decomposition. Thatch accumulates when lawn growth surpasses microbial breakdown. Lawn leaves are of little consideration in thatch accumulation since they are readily broken down, whereas the roots and stems break down slowly and are actually recognizable within the thatch layer.

As we get closer and closer to the dog days of summer, thatchy lawns become troublesome to maintain. Samples collected with grub damage, disease problems and localized dry spots often have an underlying thatch problem that needs to be addressed both directly through dethatching and indirectly through proper turf management practices to reduce the buildup.
Is your lawn deteriorating and struggling to green up & thicken? Then it's time to de-thatch! Lawnpro will de-thatch your lawn, removing the excessive build up of dead roots, lawn debris and dead turf-grass crowns; organic matter that smoothers your lawn and slowly kills it off.
