Mole cricket tunnel

The nest of the mole sricket

  • The mole cricket tunnel system is normally located underneath a well manicured lawn and designed to contain a calling site from whence the mating calls are amplified into the night.
  •  By looking at the diagram below one sees a typical tunneling system and it shows that the mole cricket is well prepared for escape.
  • In the event that the male is discovered by a predator whilst singing his love song he can run away in more than one direction and exit or enter a number of horns in the tunneling system.
  • The map also shows that this is just a site for calling and nesting. It is reasonable to guess that the mole cricket comes to the site in calling time.
